Family, friends and supporters. First of all I want to thank you all for the love and support I’ve recieved over the years. It’s been a long hard journey, but each day is a blessing. I’m witnessing so many men that came to Death row after me that is no longer with us because the state has murdered them. I know that as long as I have life ”I will continue to fight”… and I thank you for fighting this battle with me. You don’t know how much I appreciate you all.
Well I would like to bring you up to date on my situation, but honestly there no new news… I am still without a attorney, which i’ve been waiting for one to be appointed to me by the state since August– 06. I have written to several organisations seeking legal advi e and/or assistance. I recieved a reply from the ”Innocence project” in New York– N.Y. This is a very respected organisation. It specialises in D.N.A testing. If they are willing to work with me it will defenitely be another blessing for us. They have helped prove a lot of mens innocence. I’ve also written to my trial judge (Mary Ramone Court 175th Bexar County) to ask her to check into my current situation. I’m waiting for her reply… In here the system is steadily killing people. At times I am so emotionally drained that i just want to crawl on my bunk and sleep, sleep for hours or days if i could… Hoping that when I awake I’m somewhere else… anywhere but here...But then I understand that it’s just depression. I was reading a book and was insoired by this story that I want to share with you… It’s about a farmer and his mule… In many ways I can relate to the mule and it’s situation. Title of the story: SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP. A farmer owned an old mule that fell into a well. After assessing the situation, the farmer reluctantly concluded that neither the mule nor the well was worth saving. Instead he called his neighbors together and enlisted them to help bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery. Initially the old mul was frantic, but as dirt kept hitting his back, something happened. It dawned on the mule that every time a shovel load landed on his back, ”he should shake it off and step up!” This he did, blow after blow. Shake it off and step up…. Shake it off and step up. No matter how painful the blows or how distressing the situation, the old mule fought panic and just kept right on ”shaking it off and stepping up!” Before long, the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly through the mouth of that well… What seemed like it would bury him, actually helped him… All because of how he handled his adversity… The end…
The guy that had this story in his book went on to say that ”life is the same way. If we face our problems and respond to them positively, refusing to surrender to panic, bitterness or self– pity, the adversities that come along to bury us usually possess the potential to benefit us.”
I will continue to fight to prove my innocence, not only for myself, but also for those of you who believe in me… I don’t think I could have made it this long without you. Again thank you all, and God bless you. Always Carl. |
